VEEDERSBURG - Mrs. Florence J. Gookins died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday at Culver Hospital where she had been a patient since July 24 and after a five-year illness. She had been a life resident of Veedersburg. Born June 11, 1875, Mrs. Gookins was the daughter of James and Sarah Eisley Songer and was married March 16, 1901 to William Gookins. Early in her life she had been a teacher in the Veedersburg area and was a member of the New Century E.U.B. Church. She was the last of a family of nine children. Surviving are her husband, two sons, Hardy and William of Newtown, two daughters, Mrs. Grace Hoagland of Veedersburg and Mrs. Mabel Davis of Covington. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the New Century E.U.B. Church with Rev. Conley Rowland officiating and burial will be in the Bonebrake Cemetery.
